About Pustaka Nidhi
Tens of thousands of Telugu books have been scanned by the Digital Library of India, libraries and volunteers, and are freely readable on the Internet Archive. They are hard to find there: more than half have titles written only in English letters, often in inconsistent spellings, and newspapers sit in the same lists as books.
Pustaka Nidhi gathers that catalogue into one shelf you can search in either script.
Where the books come from
- Digital Library of India: the largest group, scanned from Indian libraries in the 2000s.
- Telugu Library: digitised runs of magazines such as Andhra Patrika, Bharathi and Gruhalakshmi.
- Newspapers and magazines: daily papers and periodicals, grouped by title with their issues listed by year.
- Palm-leaf manuscripts, film song booklets, Chandamama and community uploads.
- In English: about two thousand English books on the Telugu land and its people, such as district manuals and gazetteers, census reports, inscriptions, histories, dictionaries and grammars. They are listed separately; a search shows how many match.
The catalogue is rebuilt every week from the Internet Archive, so new uploads appear automatically.
How search works
Titles and author names are reduced to a spelling-neutral key, so వేమన, Vemana andveimana find the same books. Where the archive only has an English-letter title, a Telugu spelling is generated from words seen elsewhere in the catalogue. These are marked as automatic in each book's details and can contain mistakes.
Your library
Favourites, reading status, page numbers and notes are kept in your browser's storage. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no account. Clearing your browser data removes them, so use Export in My library to keep a copy, and Import to restore it or move it to another device.

This site hosts no books. Every cover, page and download comes directly from the Internet Archive, under the terms shown on each item's archive.org page.
